Lying at China’s Southeast coast,to the west of Taiwan Strait, the Province of Fujian has a population of 35.58million and covers a land area of 121,400k㎡.It is one of China ’s major windows in its exchanges with the world. It faces Taiwan in the east, connecting the Pearl River Delta in the south, the vast inland areas in the west and the Yangtze River Delta in the north , adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao , thus has its unique geographic advantages and great influences in the Southeast Asia . It is one of China ’s earliest provinces that implemented the reform and opening-up policies. “Building an open and prosperous economic zone along the west coast of the Taiwan Strait for harmonious development”is proposed as the strategic goal for Fujian ’s development.In 2005, this strategic initiative has been officially incorporated into the national regional development strategies.

Combined strength has increased greatly: Fujian is right at the juncture of China’s most economically developed areas: Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta.As an integral part of regional economic development strategy for China, the province has maintained close business and trade connections with surrounding provinces, and formed a compact network of regional economic cooperation , incorporating Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang , Jiangxi and Anhui provinces, centering on cities of Xiamen and Fuzhou in Fujian. Since 1978, Fujian has kept a high economic growth rate. In 2007 the provincial GDP reached RMB880billion. 

Fujian is a major province in foreign trade. In the year 2007, the total import and export amounted USD74,000million of which USD49,700million was exported and USD24,300 million was imported. The opening-up drive is developing in width and depth and a comprehensive pattern of opening has taken shape in Fujian Province . Fujian has established economic and trade contacts with over 200 countries and regions in the world.

A high achievement in absorption of foreign-capital: Since the reform and the open-up to foreign countries, Fujian has actively participated in economic globalization. A lot of world-renown multinational corporations such as Kodak, Boeing, Unisignal, GE, Compaq, Dell, BP, Panasonic have made their investment in Fujian . In 2007 1,723 foreign –invested enterprises were approved with a total contracted foreign-capital of USD9,449 million of which USD4,061million has been utilized.

Fujian is a major province in international economic and technological cooperation. Our investment in the foreign countries reached 219 million US dollars, of which 136 million US dollars made by Chinese investment; the contract amount and business turnover of the foreign economic and technological cooperation reached 580 million US dollars and 520 million US dollars respectively.
