Zhejiang Province is located in the southern part of Yangtze River Delta on the southeast coast of China. It borders Shanghai, the country’s largest city,with a land area of 101,800 square kilometers and a population of 48.9 million. Zhejiang enjoys its spectacular strength in China in the fields of economy, tourism and culture.
In administrative division, there are 11 cities under the direct jurisdiction of the province, which are further divided into 36 counties, 22 county-level cities and 32 urban districts. The 11 cities are Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing, Taizhou, Jinhua, Quzhou, Lishui, and Zhoushan.
1. Perfect Infrastructure
Airways
Zhejiang has seven airports which are located in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Zhoushan, Yiwu, Taizhou, and Quzhou with over 185 domestic and international airlines.
Highways
The total length of highways is 48,600 kms,among which 1,866 kms are expressways and 2,956 kms are first level highways. A “Four-Hour Highway Ring” has been constructed to connect the provincial capital Hangzhou with other cities on the land.
Railways
Zhejiang railway transportation network has been formed with lines of Hu-Hang, Zhe-Gan, Xuan-Hang, Jin-Qian, Chang-Niu ,Beilun,,Hangzhou,the capital,is the hub.
Water Traffic
There are seven major coastal and river ports with located in Ningbo, Zhoushan,Wenzhou, Taizhou and Jiaxing. The Ningbo-Zhoushan port, which has 147 container lines,is a large comprehensive harbor with a handling capacity of 100 million tons. Tt is open to over 600 ports in over 100 countries and regions and constitutes a global sea transport system.
2. Energetic Zhejiang Economy
Zhejiang’s economy developed rapidly with it’s economic indices holding the lead in the country. Zhejiang has been one of the most dynamic provinces with the fastest economic growth rate. In 2007, the provincial GDP rose to 245.1 billion USD, increased by 14.5% than the previous year. GDP per capita was near 5,000 USD.
Light industry plays the major role in Zhejiang’s industrial structure. Labor intensified industries such as textile, garment, silk, leather and commodity, mechanical and electrical products, culture, education, and sports goods have strong competitiveness.
Zhejiang has numerous big scale specialized markets with strong comprehensive ability and broad radiation. It has been known as “the Province of Markets”. For years , the province has been a national leader in three indices of market turnover, the number of markets with trading volume over 100 million yuan and turnover of individual markets.
Zhejiang’s private enterprises has strong strength and great vitality. In 2007,they lead the country with an export volume of 61.9 billion USD.
3. Rapid Developed Foreign Trade
In year 2007, the total volume of import and export is 176.8 billion USD, including the export volume of 128.3 billion USD and import volume of 48.5 billion USD, increasing 27.1% ,27.2% and 36.6% than last year separately.
There are 2919 newly-approved foreign-funded enterprises in 2007 with the actually utilized value of 10.4 billion USD. By the end of 2007,there had been approved 42.2 thousand foreign-funded enterprises with the actually utilized value of 55.98 billion USD. There were 80 world top-500 enterprises had set up 210 Foreign-invested Enterprises in Zhejiang province by the end of 2007。
By the end of 2007,the number of overseas enterprises totaled 3039, with the total investment of 2.1 billion USD and Chinese investment amounting to 1.7 billion USD.
